Sean Bean Information Basics
Sean Bean was born Shaun Mark Bean in Handsworth, Sheffield, England. His father ran a very successful family business. Sean has a sister as well. Sean has been married four times, and is presently single. He has three daughters.
Sean Bean Education and Early Career
Sean dreamed of being a professional football player. Due to a childhood injury, he wasn't able to pursue that career choice. He was learning to be a welder when he decided to look into a career in the arts field. He discovered and fell in love with drama. He ended up with a scholarship to the RADA, Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
After college, Sean appeared in several stage productions with the Royal Shakespeare Company. His first film was in 1986, playing Ranuccio Thomasoni in Caravaggio. Soon, he was a widely recognized actor in England due to television acting roles. He is well remembered for his sexy scenes with Joely Richardson in Lady Chatterley. This propelled him to the status of sex symbol. However, his role in the television series Sharpe is what brought fame into his life.
Sean Bean in Hollywood
Sean's first acting gig across the pond came with his performance in the miniseries titled Scarlett, a series about the civil war, based on a sequel to the classic Gone With the Wind. His first Hollywood movie was with Harrison Ford in Patriot Games. Sean would go on to play many bad guy roles.
What caused Sean Bean's star to soar was his part as Boromir in The Lord of the Rings movies. Sean has since been in several movies and stage productions. He does voice over gigs as well for advertising firms.
All about the hit HBO series, Game of Thrones, and the book by the same title written by George R. R. Martin, a medieval fantasy involving the royal houses of Stark, Lannister, and Targaryen. The second season will be based on the 2nd book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Clash of Kings.

Game of Thrones Cast
I really like the casting for the HBO series, Game of Thrones. Even though the Stark children are supposed to have auburn hair, except for Arya and Jon Snow. Having read the book series by George R. R. Martin and expecting that, I was satisfied anyway.
I hate when you read a book, then watch the movie and the characters are completely different than described in the book. Just like J.K. Rowling before him, I have a feeling that George R. R. Martin will keep a tight rein on such details.
Sean Bean is an excellent choice for the role of Eddard Stark, otherwise known as Ned. Ned is a moral man with integrity. Sean just looks the part, I think. Sean is probably best known for his role as Boromir from The Lord of the Rings movies.
Peter Dinklage plays the enigmatic Tyrion Lannister, also known as The Imp. Another perfect choice, although it's taking me some time to get used to him as a blonde. His better known roles are probably playing Trumpkin in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and as Miles Finch in Elf.
I've always liked Mark Addy, so I'm glad he was chosen to play King Robert Baratheon. He is probably my favorite from the Game of Thrones cast. I never would have guessed he's British watching him in the tv show Still Standing. He did an awesome job playing an American blue collar regular Joe. And who could forget him in the hilarious The Full Monty?
Michelle Fairley plays Catelyn Stark. She is the one actor that matched the least with the character in my mind's eye from the book. I didn't recognize her, but she did play in the Harry Potter movies as Mrs. Granger, and she was in The Others as Mrs. Marlish.
Emilia Clarke was picked for the character, Daenerys Targaryen. She is a virtually unknown actress, although she has had other parts.
Jon Snow is played by Kit Harington, another unknown actor. (Til now!)
Queen Cersei is played by Lena Headey. She will probably be recognized for her parts as Queen Gorgo in 300 and Sarah Connor in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles tv series.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was cast as Jaime Lannister. He has lots of acting credits, including Black Hawk Down and Kingdom of Heaven. He reminds me a lot of Aaron Eckhart, appearance wise.
Khal Drogo is played by the gorgeous Jason Momoa. He has lots of television acting experience. You may recognize him from Stargate: Atlantis as Ronon Dex, the tv series North Shore as Frankie Seau, and maybe from Baywatch.
Harry Lloyd plays Viserys Targaryen, and I thought he did an excellent job in the pilot episode. He can really seem evil. He played in the Robin Hood tv series as Will Scarlett.
Robb Stark is played by Richard Madden. Richard has a bit of acting experience, with parts in a few television shows.
Isaac Hempstead-Wright was cast as Bran Stark. He is an unknown actor, and this is surely his lucky break!
Sansa Stark is played by Sophie Turner. She is another unknown actress.
Maisie Williams, another unknown actress, plays the part of Arya Stark.
It was rumored way back before production started that the Game of Thrones cast was to be ALL unknowns. It was said that George R. R. Martin wanted it that way. I don't know if it was just an unfounded rumor or if he changed his mind. As you can see, the Game of Thrones cast is a mixture of established and unknown actors.
I know that this isn't every actor and actress from the Game of Thrones cast, but I will add information about other actors and actresses as they get more airtime on the show. I will also gradually add more information about the main Game of Thrones cast, including pictures, interviews, etc.

A Bit of Trivia and FAQ About the HBO Game of Thrones Series
First, the cute little wolf pups. Are they truly wolves?
Well, the answer is a definite no.
I have gotten conflicting reports as to what they actually are, though. I have found claims that they are actually Siberian Husky pups. And I also read that they were bred and developed to look like wolves. They are supposed to be an especially boisterous breed, and only a true dog lover would want one. I also read that Sophie Turner, the actress who plays Sansa Stark, fell in love with hers and decided to keep it for real.
Where is the HBO show filmed?
The beautiful opening snow scenes were filmed in Northern Ireland. Now I really want to go there! Most of the series was shot in Northern Ireland. Other filming locations were Scotland and Malta.
The Game of Thrones sets are beautiful. How much did it cost to film?
It is rumored that the pilot episode production costs were well over 5 million dollars. Total budget for the first season of ten episodes has been estimated at 60 million dollars.

Game of Thrones HBO Premiere
The much anticipated Game of Thrones HBO premiere finally arrived April 17th, 2011. It has been a long wait for our household. We are all fans of the medieval fantasy book series by George R. R. Martin. We heard about the Game of Thrones HBO series what seems like ages ago and have been excited ever since.
First thoughts? It was a bit slow, especially the opening scene with the White Walkers and the Night's Watch. (For A Song of Ice and Fire book fans, the Others are called White Walkers in the HBO series.) Beautiful imagery, but kind of long and drawn out.
However, showing this scene right at the beginning was smart, for it shows first thing that this is definitely a fantasy story, but set in medieval times. Otherwise, it would have just seemed like the same old kings and queens tale.
I really loved the opening sequence. It showed the details of the locations of the story via a map that had a cool steampunk feel to it. I will post a video of the Game of Thrones opening later.
The show design sets are amazing. I enjoy the castle scenes especially. And as mentioned above, although slow, the opening scenes in the snow along the Wall are just beautiful. See part of the opening scene in the HBO Game of Thrones trailer in the next post.
So far, the HBO series seems to follow along with the Game of Thrones book, with the exception of renaming the Others.
I believe that the opening episode was probably a bit confusing to those who haven't read the books. And maybe a bit boring. I caught myself moving along with the show perfectly, but I also knew a bit more backstory details, having read the books. If you had that problem, keep watching. It will all start making sense! And read the books- they are awesome!
Game of Thrones comes on every Sunday night at 9 PM EST. Don't miss it!
