Game of Thrones Cast

I really like the casting for the HBO series, Game of Thrones. Even though the Stark children are supposed to have auburn hair, except for Arya and Jon Snow. Having read the book series by George R. R. Martin and expecting that, I was satisfied anyway.

I hate when you read a book, then watch the movie and the characters are completely different than described in the book. Just like J.K. Rowling before him, I have a feeling that George R. R. Martin will keep a tight rein on such details.

Sean Bean is an excellent choice for the role of Eddard Stark, otherwise known as Ned. Ned is a moral man with integrity. Sean just looks the part, I think. Sean is probably best known for his role as Boromir from The Lord of the Rings movies.

Peter Dinklage plays the enigmatic Tyrion Lannister, also known as The Imp. Another perfect choice, although it's taking me some time to get used to him as a blonde. His better known roles are probably playing Trumpkin in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and as Miles Finch in Elf.

I've always liked Mark Addy, so I'm glad he was chosen to play King Robert Baratheon. He is probably my favorite from the Game of Thrones cast. I never would have guessed he's British watching him in the tv show Still Standing. He did an awesome job playing an American blue collar regular Joe. And who could forget him in the hilarious The Full Monty?

Michelle Fairley plays Catelyn Stark. She is the one actor that matched the least with the character in my mind's eye from the book. I didn't recognize her, but she did play in the Harry Potter movies as Mrs. Granger, and she was in The Others as Mrs. Marlish.

Emilia Clarke was picked for the character, Daenerys Targaryen. She is a virtually unknown actress, although she has had other parts.

Jon Snow is played by Kit Harington, another unknown actor. (Til now!)

Queen Cersei is played by Lena Headey. She will probably be recognized for her parts as Queen Gorgo in 300 and Sarah Connor in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles tv series.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was cast as Jaime Lannister. He has lots of acting credits, including Black Hawk Down and Kingdom of Heaven. He reminds me a lot of Aaron Eckhart, appearance wise.

Khal Drogo is played by the gorgeous Jason Momoa. He has lots of television acting experience. You may recognize him from Stargate: Atlantis as Ronon Dex, the tv series North Shore as Frankie Seau, and maybe from Baywatch.

Harry Lloyd plays Viserys Targaryen, and I thought he did an excellent job in the pilot episode. He can really seem evil. He played in the Robin Hood tv series as Will Scarlett.

Robb Stark is played by Richard Madden. Richard has a bit of acting experience, with parts in a few television shows.

Isaac Hempstead-Wright was cast as Bran Stark. He is an unknown actor, and this is surely his lucky break!

Sansa Stark is played by Sophie Turner. She is another unknown actress.

Maisie Williams, another unknown actress, plays the part of Arya Stark.

It was rumored way back before production started that the Game of Thrones cast was to be ALL unknowns. It was said that George R. R. Martin wanted it that way. I don't know if it was just an unfounded rumor or if he changed his mind. As you can see, the Game of Thrones cast is a mixture of established and unknown actors.

I know that this isn't every actor and actress from the Game of Thrones cast, but I will add information about other actors and actresses as they get more airtime on the show. I will also gradually add more information about the main Game of Thrones cast, including pictures, interviews, etc.
